JAYAPURA, Papua: Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam ambassadors
suggested on Saturday that Indonesia should convince foreign
investors to go to Papua now that security conditions are much
improved.
Brunei Ambassador Haji Moh. Amir and Malaysian Ambassador
Dato' Rastam Moh. Isa agreed that the natural resources-rich
province was relatively stable.
The two envoys arrived here on Friday for a four-day visit,
which will also take them to giant gold and copper mining company
PT Freeport Indonesia in Tembagapura.
Papua has seen a long-standing separatist campaign waged by
the Papua Free Organization (OPM), which, compared with its
counterpart in Aceh, is less organized and insistent.
"It now depends on the central government and the Papua
provincial administration to convince the world community that
Papua is secure," Rustam said. -- Antara
