Malaysia Appreciates Russia's Readiness for Long-Term Energy Cooperation
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has stated that Russia is ready to develop long-term cooperation with Malaysia in the supply of oil and energy resources, following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I also touched on the issue of expanding economic cooperation, including appreciation for Russia’s readiness to guarantee long-term cooperation in energy and oil supplies,” Ibrahim wrote via his X account. According to Anwar, both parties also exchanged views on prospects for cooperation in new technologies, cyber security, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, modern agriculture, and pharmaceuticals. “I held a productive meeting with President Vladimir Putin to discuss various forms of bilateral cooperation, including opportunities to strengthen collaboration in the energy sector, which is a strategic area of mutual interest for Malaysia and the Russian Federation,” he said. In addition, the two countries discussed simplifying citizen mobility, including visa procedures, as well as mechanisms for expanding bilateral trade and investment using national currencies, namely the Russian rouble and the Malaysian ringgit. Anwar also stated that he greatly appreciated President Putin’s consistent stance regarding the situation in Iran and the Gaza Strip.
