Malaysia appreciates Iran's decision on Strait of Hormuz
Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has appreciated Iran’s decision to allow Malaysian ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Anwar conveyed this appreciation to the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Malaysia, Valiollah Mohammadi, during a meeting on the sidelines of a dialogue event in Malaysia on Tuesday. “In the atmosphere of uncertainty following the West Asian crisis, I convey Malaysia’s appreciation for Iran’s decision to permit the country’s oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” said Anwar Ibrahim. Previously, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) confirmed that one of seven Malaysian commercial ships has been permitted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Wisma Putra stated that this positive result was achieved following high-level diplomatic involvement between Malaysian and Iranian leaders. The high-level diplomacy included a constructive telephone conversation on 26 March 2026 between Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Additionally, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan had previously held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on 24 March 2026.
