MALAYSIA: Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta will sign a new agreement next year that enables both countries to share intelligence and keep tabs on militant activities and international crimes, a report said on Monday.
Defense Minister Najib Tun Razak was quoted by the official news agency Bernama as saying the agreement would focus on coordinated action to tackle militancy, piracy, human smuggling and firearms.
Najib spoke after opening the 30th meeting of the Malaysia- Indonesia General Border Committee, or GBC in Kuala Lumpur. Indonesian Armed Forces Chief Admiral Widodo Adisucipto is leading his country's delegation to the conference.
Najib said the new agreement, which would replace the Security Regulations at Border Districts of Malaysia-Indonesia Agreement 1984, would be drawn up at the 31st GBC meeting in Indonesia next year. --AP
