Malaysia Aims to Become an AI Nation by 2030
This transition is not merely the adoption of new technology, but demands a comprehensive transformation in the way we plan, manage, and regulate cities to make them more efficient, resilient, and data-based. Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysia is striving to realise itself as an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based nation by 2030 by pioneering the development of AI cities starting this year. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that Malaysia is currently at a critical juncture to shift from developing smart cities to a more strategic approach through the construction of AI cities, as the foundation for Malaysia becoming an AI Nation. “This transition is not merely the adoption of new technology, but demands a comprehensive transformation in the way we plan, manage, and regulate cities to make them more efficient, resilient, and data-based,” said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in a statement in Kuala Lumpur on Friday. He said that the Ministry of Digital Malaysia will act as the main coordinator with close cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, while the government will continue to strengthen this synergy to ensure effective and high-impact implementation, for the overall benefit of society and to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a competitive AI Nation on a global level. The GII is designed to go beyond conceptual innovation towards measurable implementation. This initiative translates real-world problem statements from the government and society into actionable solutions, prioritising “Made in Malaysia” technology, strengthening the domestic AI ecosystem, and enabling Malaysian digital and AI product producers to grow nationally and globally.
