Malang scouts aid refugees

MALANG, East Java: Scouts in Malang regency, East Java, have collected 3,500 pieces of used clothing to be donated to refugees who fled the Sampit violence in Central Kalimantan and are currently seeking shelter in East Java.

The secretary of the regency's Indonesian Red Cross branch, Mudjiono, on Wednesday confirmed the scouts donation.

He pointed out that the community in Malang had shown great concern and solidarity over the plight of refugees.

"We've also collected Rp 4 million from a women's gathering," he said.

As reported by Antara there are currently some 1,060 Sampit refugees sheltered in the regency.
