Malang Police have engaged the online motorcycle taxi (ojol) community as partners to help prevent disturbances to public order and security (kamtibmas) in Malang Regency. The collaboration is expected to speed up the delivery of information should security disturbances occur in the community.

The partnership was formalised during the ‘Silaturahmi Ojol Mitra Kamtibmas Polres Malang’ event, which was combined with communal prayers and donations to orphans at the Ashumul Muhsinin Mosque on Friday (28/8/2026).

Malang Police Chief AKBP Rulian Syauri said ojol drivers have high mobility and operate across various areas. These conditions make them strategic partners for the police in maintaining public order.

‘Our ojol colleagues have high mobility and are in direct contact with the public. Therefore, we want to build communication and make ojol partners in maintaining security,’ said AKBP Rulian on Friday (28/8).

AKBP Rulian assessed that the involvement of ojol drivers is part of efforts to strengthen communication and shared concern for the security situation in the community. Drivers are expected to help convey information if they encounter potential security disturbances or incidents requiring officer intervention.

‘If you encounter an incident or potential public order disturbance, immediately inform the police. With rapid communication, we can take earlier handling measures,’ he said.

Rulian also urged ojol drivers to help keep the situation conducive by not being easily influenced by information whose truth is unclear.

‘Do not easily believe unverified information. Let us work together to keep the environment safe and conducive,’ he said.

In addition to strengthening communication, the activity included communal prayers and the provision of donations to orphans. Malang Police hope the relationship with the ojol community continues so that a collaboration providing direct benefits for public security can be created.

‘Security is not solely the responsibility of the police. With togetherness and communication among all elements of society, including ojol, we can keep Malang Regency safe, comfortable and conducive,’ said Rulian.

Meanwhile, Puji Waluyo, Chairman of PDOI East Java, welcomed the call for synergy. He said the ojol community in Greater Malang has around 800 members, with more than 400 drivers operating in Malang Regency.

Puji said the relationship with Malang Police is expected to further strengthen synergy in maintaining a conducive atmosphere in the region.

‘I consider the Malang Police Chief a friend; we are ready whenever needed for the conduciveness of the Malang Regency area,’ he said.
