Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - The Malang City Government in East Java has submitted four draft regional regulations (raperda) for discussion with the local DPRD.

Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat, at the Malang City DPRD Building on Wednesday, stated that the four raperda cover drug prevention, green open spaces, investment, and road traffic and transportation.

“These raperda were actually submitted from 2023 to 2025, but they can only be followed up for discussion this year,” he said.

He explained that the four raperda are important as legal umbrellas for implementing local government policies.

The raperda on drug prevention, he continued, will serve as the basis for prevention and education efforts to curb the circulation of narcotics and illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, the raperda on green open spaces is a follow-up to the regional spatial planning plan (RTRW) to maintain green open spaces from conversions that could disrupt ecosystem balance.

For the investment raperda, the Malang City Government is adjusting it to the provisions in the Job Creation Law to align with central government policies.

The raperda on road traffic and transportation is prepared as a reference for developing the transportation system and road network to address congestion.

Deputy Chairman of the Malang City DPRD, Trio Agus Purwono, stated that the DPRD will follow up on the proposal through internal discussions and the submission of faction general views.

After that, the DPRD will form special committees (pansus) to discuss each raperda in greater depth.

“The number of pansus members ranges from nine to 15 people and is adjusted to the number of raperda submitted,” he said.

He added that the raperda discussions will also involve public input through public hearings.

If agreed upon, the raperda will be submitted to the provincial government for the synchronisation process before being enacted as regional regulations through a plenary session.
