The Malang City Government, through the Cooperatives, Industry and Trade Office (Diskopindag), is encouraging the strengthening of production governance through Technical Guidance on the Implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for managers and management of small to medium-scale cigarette factories. The measure aims to ensure production processes run in accordance with regulations, particularly in terms of quality, cleanliness, safety, and process order.

Head of Diskopindag Malang City, Eko Sri Yuliadi, said the implementation of GMP is an important part of building consistent production processes while maintaining product quality.

“Through this technical guidance, we encourage industry players to be able to apply sanitation standards, equipment control, and integrated SOP documentation. This is important for maintaining product quality while avoiding the risk of regulatory sanctions,” Eko said.

The implementation of GMP builds work habits that need to be carried out consistently, starting from maintaining facility cleanliness and sanitation, controlling equipment, managing production processes, to documenting operational procedures. When all these stages run well, product quality becomes more measurable and risks in the production process can be reduced.

At the same time, orderly governance helps industry players comply with applicable regulations and build more professional business processes.

Strengthening GMP is also related to other aspects of industrial governance, including data reporting through the National Industrial Information System (SIINas) and the utilisation of the Tobacco Products Excise Revenue Sharing Fund (DBHCHT). With an increasingly orderly industry, the data produced is expected to be more accurate and can support more precise guidance.

“We are targeting at least 50 tobacco products industry factories in Malang City to have a strong commitment to consistently implementing 10 GMP principles. If industrial governance becomes more orderly and integrated, the competitiveness of local cigarettes in the national market will certainly increase,” Eko said.

Through the technical guidance, tobacco products industry players not only gain an understanding of GMP principles, but also practical material and the preparation of follow-up plans that can be applied in their respective production facilities.
