Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - The Malang Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) stated that the national road connecting the area with Lumajang Regency, East Java, has returned to normal and is now passable for motor vehicles after being affected by a landslide.
The Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of Malang Regency BPBD, Sadono Irawan, in Malang on Thursday, said that the handling of the landslide on the national road involved joint personnel, including from the East Java Provincial Public Works and Road Maintenance Department and the East Java-Bali National Road Implementation Centre (BBPJN).
“The handling and cleaning were completed at 2:00 PM WIB; this is just finishing touches. But traffic flow there is already normal and safe,” Sadono said.
The joint personnel carried out handling and cleaning of the landslide material using heavy equipment as well as shovels and sand carts.
Heavy rain occurred from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM WIB.
“The length and width of the road covered by the landslide was approximately 6x4 metres,” he said.
Malang Regency BPBD also reported that a landslide incident due to heavy rain occurred in Simojayan Village, which is also in Ampelgading Subdistrict.
The incident happened at the same time and day as the landslide on the Malang-Lumajang National Road.
Joint personnel were also deployed to handle the location, particularly in opening the inter-village connecting route that was blocked by landslide material.
“The one in Simojayan Village blocked the road to Mulyosari Village. The handling there has now been completed,” he said.
