A member of Malaka Regency Police, Aipda Melky Dapawole alias MR alias Mekos, has received a special placement sanction (patsus) for acting as a bookmaker in a remote-controlled billiard gambling operation in Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

“Yes, the alleged involvement of a police officer in gambling practices in Malaka Regency has been firmly addressed to safeguard the honour of the institution and public trust,” stated Malaka Police Chief AKBP Riki Ganjar Gumilar to detikBali on Monday (30/3/2026).

Riki explained that the case was uncovered after residents of Halion B Hamlet, Barena Village, Central Malaka Subdistrict, Malaka Regency, reported disturbing billiard gambling activities on Sunday (29/3/2026).

In response to the report, Deputy Police Chief of Malaka Kompol Muhammad Fakhruddin, along with the Head of Propam Section at Malaka Police Ipda Mario Ximenes and several personnel, immediately proceeded to the location.

As a result, officers secured Melky Dapawole along with evidence including a billiard table and two remotes suspected to be used in the billiard gambling operation.

“Currently, the individual has been secured and placed under patsus by the Propam of Malaka Police for further examination,” Riki clarified.

Riki emphasised that the patsus is a follow-up to directives from the NTT Police Chief Irjen Rudi Darmoko to not tolerate any police officers involved in violations.

“Institutional integrity is non-negotiable, leaving no room for members engaged in gambling practices or other legal violations. Anyone proven to have breached the rules will be dealt with firmly without exception,” Riki asserted.

Riki appreciated the courage of the community and customary leaders in reporting the gambling practices involving his officer. According to him, public participation is crucial for overseeing the police institution.

In addition to the examination of Melky Dapawole, Malaka Police assured that law enforcement processes will continue professionally and transparently. Currently, Malaka Police is also investigating the site to gather additional statements and coordinating with community figures to maintain a conducive security situation.

“Police officers should serve as role models in society, not become involved in violations; therefore, the handling of this case will be conducted transparently until completion,” Riki concluded.
