Makro expands to Bali

JAKARTA (JP): Makro, an international wholesale chain, is scheduled today to open an outlet in Bali, increasing the number of retail outlets to nine throughout the country.

The new outlet, located on Jl. Raya By Pass Ngurah Ray, which links the Kuta and Sanur beaches, will be officially opened by Bali's Governor Ida Bagus Oka.

Since the first outlet in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, opened five year ago, Makro has run several outlets in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, in Meruya, West Jakarta, in Ciputat, South Jakarta, in Tangerang and Bandung, West Java and in Surabaya, East Java.

Nugroho Sidiadinata, president of PT Karabha, Makro's Indonesian partner, said the presence of the one-hectare Makro outlet in Bali was expected to support the distribution of basic needs to the public.

Makro Bali is located on a five hectare plot with a 700- vehicle parking lot. The retailer employs 200 staff and sells about 15,000 items. (icn)
