Making Central Java Proud, Primary School Student with NASA Recognition Gets Laptop from Ahmad Luthfi
Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has given appreciation to Ibrahim Al Abrar, a student at SD Negeri 3 Genengsari, Kemusu District, Boyolali Regency, who received recognition from the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) after discovering a security vulnerability in one of its systems. As a form of support, Luthfi presented a laptop to encourage Ibrahim to be more active in developing his coding and cybersecurity skills.
During the meeting, Luthfi also chatted about Ibrahim’s aspirations. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Luthfi asked when receiving Ibrahim in his office on Wednesday (29/7). “A cyber security professional,” Ibrahim replied. Luthfi appreciated the learning spirit of Ibrahim, who has been independently studying coding and cybersecurity since the fourth grade of primary school. According to him, young talents like Ibrahim need support to continue developing and make Indonesia proud on the international stage.
Ibrahim’s achievement began when he discovered a broken link hijacking vulnerability in one of the systems covered by NASA’s Vulnerability Disclosure Policy (VDP). The finding originated from an inactive NASA social media link, which could potentially be taken over by other parties for phishing purposes or spreading false information on behalf of the agency. The finding was then reported through a responsible disclosure mechanism and verified by NASA’s security team. For his contribution, Ibrahim received a Letter of Recognition dated 9 July 2026 as a token of appreciation for helping to improve NASA’s system security.
Ibrahim admitted that it took about six days to confirm his finding. During that process, he spent three to four hours each day in front of the computer. He explained that the search process was carried out with the help of an artificial intelligence-based tool, DeepSeek. However, his coding skills were acquired through self-study from the internet, YouTube, online communities, and guidance from his parents, one of whom is a computer teacher at a vocational high school in Boyolali. Besides NASA, Ibrahim has also discovered vulnerabilities in a system belonging to the Lampung Provincial Government and received a certificate of appreciation.
On that occasion, Ibrahim expressed his happiness with the attention given by the Central Java Provincial Government. He hopes this support will motivate him to continue learning and building his portfolio in the cybersecurity field. “My hope is to develop further and build my portfolio for the future,” he said. Head of the Central Java Education Office, Sadimin, stated that the appreciation given by the provincial government is a form of support for outstanding students to continue developing their potential. “Mas Ibrahim needed a laptop. So we gave him a laptop, a bag, and educational supplies. A primary school-aged child has received an award from NASA. We certainly must appreciate him so he can develop,” Sadimin said. In addition to this assistance, Ibrahim also received a scholarship from Al Abidin Islamic Junior High School in Surakarta to continue his education, awarded by the school as a form of appreciation for his achievements.
