JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman has urged Commission III of the DPR to form a Working Committee (Panja) to investigate the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the change in detention status of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to house arrest.

The request was conveyed by Boyamin through a letter sent to Commission III of the DPR on Thursday (26/3/2026).

Boyamin views the formation of the panja as important as a form of external oversight of the KPK, in addition to reports already submitted to the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas).

“A DPR panja is still needed as an external supervisor; as representatives of the people, they can be considered superiors to the KPK, who can cut the budget if the KPK’s performance is poor,” said Boyamin.

“And various other deviations, so a DPR Panja is still needed to comprehensively depict alleged deviations along with recommendations for improvements,” he stated.

“The panja is particularly needed to expose alleged interventions from parties outside the KPK,” he added.

Previously, Yaqut was re-detained at the KPK Detention Centre on Tuesday (24/3/2026), after having been under house arrest.

Based on observations, Yaqut arrived at the KPK’s Red and White Building around 10.33 WIB.

“Our request,” said Yaqut when asked about the reason for the status change.

“Yes, alhamdulillah, I could pay respects to my mother. Alhamdulillah,” he said.

This change in detention status is the second time since Yaqut was detained on 12 March 2026.

On 19 March 2026, Yaqut’s detention status was switched to house arrest at the family’s request.

However, the KPK only announced this on 21 March 2026, coinciding with Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.

“Today, Monday, 23 March 2026, the KPK carried out the process of changing the type of detention for Suspect Brother YCQ… from house arrest back to KPK Detention Centre detention,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo.

Yaqut was previously detained after being named a suspect in the alleged corruption case of the 2023–2024 hajj quota, with state losses amounting to Rp 622 billion.
