MAKI to Take This Step Regarding the Alleged Corruption Case in Mempawah
Indonesia Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) has highlighted the complications in the alleged corruption case of the Sebukit Rama-Sei Sederam road project in Mempawah Regency. It assesses that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is slow in handling the case.
MAKI coordinator, Boyamin Saiman, affirmed that his side will take legal steps if the case risks stalling. Boyamin stated that they would not hesitate to pursue pre-trial legal efforts to ensure clarity in the case’s handling.
“If it ends up shelved, I will report it to the KPK Supervisory Board or file a pre-trial lawsuit. Especially since this is already at the investigation stage, it should be quick,” said Boyamin to reporters on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
He assessed that the delay in handling the case risks triggering a public trust crisis towards the anti-corruption institution. Therefore, he urged the KPK to promptly continue the case.
“Especially when the case involves active public officials who are still running the government,” he said.
Meanwhile, former KPK Deputy Chairman Saut Situmorang is puzzled by the slow process of calculating state losses in the road project case.
“Is the money in trillions? It’s so hard to calculate,” he remarked.
Furthermore, Saut stressed that the KPK needs to promptly demonstrate concrete progress to avoid public perceptions that handling cases related to political elites is slow and non-transparent.
“Chase it until you get it, otherwise the state will suffer losses,” he added.
People’s Will Alliance (Akhera) activist, Heru Purwoko, assessed that the procurement of the governor’s official vehicle lease provides no direct benefit to the public and instead risks creating new issues in regional financial governance.
“The procurement of the West Kalimantan governor’s official vehicle lease is completely unbeneficial to the public and will become a loophole for corruption that could cause potential regional financial losses,” said Heru.
He assessed that this polemic should have been preventable from the start if the regional government had sensitivity to the social and fiscal conditions of West Kalimantan society.
“Don’t let this become a polemic in society and attract special attention from the KPK or the Attorney General’s Office,” he said.
