MAKI Requests DPR to Form Working Committee to Investigate Yaqut's House Arrest, KPK Responds Positively
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has responded positively to the efforts of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) in submitting a request to form a Working Committee (Panja) under the DPR RI’s Commission III to investigate the transfer of detention for suspect Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in the alleged Hajj quota corruption case to house arrest during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr period.
“We certainly welcome it and extend our utmost gratitude to the Indonesian public, particularly MAKI in this instance,” said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Thursday, 26 March 2026.
According to Asep, MAKI’s actions represent public concern for the KPK, especially in the Hajj quota investigation. “With such support and attention, the public will stay updated on the handling of the case and the steps we are taking,” he stated.
Previously, the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) submitted a request to the Corruption Eradication Commission for the formation of a working committee by the DPR RI’s Commission III to investigate the house arrest transfer of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in the 2024 alleged Hajj quota corruption case.
MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman, when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday, said that his organisation’s corrective actions towards the KPK continue, even though the agency has transferred Yaqut Cholil back to detention.
“In the kids’ terms, it’s not that easy, Ferguso,” Boyamin remarked.
He explained that although Gus Yaqut has been returned to detention, the incident of the secretive house arrest transfer and various other deviations still occurred, necessitating a DPR Panja to fully capture the alleged deviations and provide recommendations for improvements.
“A Panja is needed, particularly to expose suspected interventions from outside the KPK, as also highlighted by Prof. Mahfud MD in his social media post,” he said.
He noted that MAKI had sent the letter requesting the formation of the Panja for Commission III of the DPR RI on Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, MAKI has written to the KPK Supervisory Board regarding alleged ethical violations by KPK leaders in the house arrest transfer of Yaqut Cholil.
Yaqut was reported not to be at the KPK detention centre during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr celebration. This was revealed by Silvia Harefa, the wife of former Deputy Manpower Minister Immanuel Ebenezer, after visiting her husband at the KPK detention centre during the Eid holiday on 21 March 2026.
