MAKI Appreciates Attorney General's Office Investigation into Alleged Bribery Case Involving Ombudsman Chairman
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesia Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) has expressed appreciation for the Attorney General’s Office’s efforts in investigating the alleged bribery case involving Hery Susanto, Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Ombudsman for the 2026–2031 period. “We appreciate the Attorney General’s Office for successfully uncovering the alleged bribery of Hery Susanto without a sting operation (OTT),” said MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman in Jakarta on Friday. According to Boyamin, the Attorney General’s Office should further trace the meetings allegedly held by Hery Susanto with business parties, including those at hotels and restaurants. Boyamin stated that his organisation had previously received information regarding Hery Susanto’s performance while serving as a commissioner of the ORI for the 2021–2026 period. This information, he continued, was also conveyed to the selection committee and the DPR, but it was not followed up. MAKI also encourages the Attorney General’s Office to expand the investigation, including tracing possible other alleged bribes related to recommendations in the mining sector. “Because during the 2021-2026 period, Hery Susanto fully handled mining issues and problems,” said Boyamin. Hery is alleged to have received a sum of money from a company to assist in resolving issues related to the calculation of non-tax state revenue (PNBP). After being designated as a suspect, Hery Susanto has been detained at the Salemba Detention House Branch of the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office for the next 20 days.
