MAKI Applauds Prabowo's Move to Defuse Tensions in Corruption Case Handling

The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) coordinator Boyamin Saiman has expressed appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto’s move to defuse polemics surrounding the handling of an alleged corruption case by transferring it from the National Police to the Attorney General’s Office. Speaking in Jakarta on Sunday, Boyamin assessed that the President’s action demonstrated leadership in coordinating law enforcement agencies to ensure the case proceeds within legal corridors. ‘In my view, the President’s action is an elegant move to bring all institutions under his control into line and prevent them from going rogue,’ Boyamin said. According to Boyamin, the transfer of the case involving a former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) to the Attorney General’s Office will make it easier for investigators to handle the alleged involvement of prosecution officials. He believes the move can also minimise the impression of inter-agency rivalry, allowing the investigation to proceed more effectively and focus on eradicating corruption. ‘If it is handed over to the Attorney General’s Office, the corruption eradication effort will find its path in accordance with legal corridors, without commotion, and the goal of eradicating corruption will be achieved,’ he stated. ‘This is indeed the President’s duty: to manage, organise, and regulate the flow of government and all his assistants, ministers, the Attorney General, the National Police Chief, and so on,’ he added. Previously, on 6 July 2026, the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) announced an investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering in the procurement and supply of coal for several steam power plants for the period 2018–2026. Febrie Adriansyah, while still serving as Jampidsus, held a press conference on 10 July 2026 and acknowledged that a house in Sentul searched by Kortastipidkor belonged to him. In the early hours of 11 July 2026, the Attorney General’s Office announced that Febrie Adriansyah had resigned from his position as Jampidsus and that his resignation had been accepted by Attorney General ST Burhanuddin. On the same day, Kortastipidkor named two suspects in the three cases, one of whom was Febrie Adriansyah, and decided to transfer the case to the Attorney General’s Office.
