Jakarta, VIVA – The House of Representatives (DPR RI), specifically Commission III, has reactivated member Ahmad Sahroni and reinstated him as Deputy Chairman of Commission III. Sahroni returned to the position after the previous Deputy Chairman, Rusdi Masse Mapasessu, resigned from the NasDem Party.

Regarding this development, Boyamin Saiman, Chairman of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI), assessed that the move was in accordance with regulations.

“We respect this because the principle was that he was deactivated for a specific period — six months. And now that six months have passed, he should be reactivated. It is his right; not doing so would actually be wrong,” said Boyamin in a statement on Thursday, 19 February 2025.

Boyamin said that Sahroni’s previous conduct was indeed deemed a violation of the ethics code and he was punished with deactivation. According to him, having served the punishment, Sahroni must return to work because he was elected by the people in the general election for a five-year term.

“That is precisely why he must work. If he does not work, he would actually be in the wrong. He could face another ethics violation,” Boyamin added.

Boyamin expressed hope that Sahroni would be more careful in his speech and conduct going forward, and more diligent in channelling the aspirations of the public, particularly those in his constituency of North Jakarta and West Jakarta.

“There is still much that needs to be fought for. That is exactly why he must atone for his past mistakes by doing better. He should demonstrate his hard work as a member of the DPR,” said Boyamin.
