Makassar Water Utility's Profit Surges Past Annual Target to IDR 17 Billion on Efficiency Gains
The profit of the Makassar City Regional Water Company (PDAM) reached Rp 17.3 billion by the end of July 2026. The profit is projected to grow to at least Rp 20 billion by December 2026.
“Looking at the achievement so far, even pessimistically, the company’s profit by the end of the year could reach around Rp 20 billion,” said Wirda Fauzah, Acting Finance Director of PDAM Makassar, to journalists on Thursday (13/8/2026).
Wirda revealed that the profit achieved in the middle of the current year has even surpassed the previously set annual target of Rp 8.4 billion. She also disclosed the winning formula behind the company’s financial performance.
“Improved effectiveness of operational performance combined with spending efficiency has been one of the main factors driving the improvement in PDAM Makassar’s financial performance throughout 2026,” she explained.
Wirda further stated that based on the financial report up to June 2026, the company’s profit had reached Rp 15.9 billion, or around 188.8 percent of the annual target. Meanwhile, based on the financial report up to the end of July 2026, the company’s profit had increased to Rp 17.3 billion.
This achievement shows a significant increase compared to the same period in 2025. In June 2025, PDAM Makassar’s profit was recorded at around Rp 1.8 billion. Meanwhile, by the end of December 2025, the company’s profit reached Rp 17.3 billion.
“Spending efficiency and the employee ratio have been very influential on the company’s current financial condition. On the other hand, we also direct company spending to support improving service quality for customers,” she said.
Spending control is an important part of maintaining a balance between the company’s financial capacity and operational needs. With more controlled spending, the company’s resources can be directed more effectively to support activities that have a direct impact on clean water services for the public.
“On the other hand, improved performance effectiveness is also continuously encouraged through production optimisation and strengthening human resource performance. This step is part of management’s efforts to ensure that productivity improvements go hand in hand with company cost control,” she said.
The increase in profit also has the potential to provide a greater contribution to regional revenue through dividends paid to the Makassar City Government. Thus, the improvement in company performance not only impacts the financial health of PDAM but is also expected to provide broader benefits for the people of Makassar City.
