Police have arrested a 19-year-old suspect, identified as IK, for the murder of a 12-year-old primary school student in an abandoned house in Makassar, South Sulawesi (Sulsel). The case was uncovered when the suspect interfered with police processing the crime scene (TKP).

Officers initially arrived at the scene on Wednesday, 27 May, after the victim’s body was discovered. During the TKP investigation, IK, who was not initially known as the perpetrator, caused a commotion in the area.

“He was causing trouble, chasing residents and children there with a machete,” said Makassar City Police Chief Kombes Arya Perdana, cited by detikSulsel on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

Police arrested IK after he threatened public safety by carrying a machete. Upon investigation, it was revealed that IK’s actions were intended to divert police attention from the murder investigation.

“Perhaps to distract the police, so he was arrested for carrying a machete and attempting to mislead,” he added.

Further probing into the suspect’s disruptive behaviour led to his identification as the perpetrator of the Makassar primary schoolgirl’s murder.

“When the crime scene was being processed, there was commotion. It turned out the person causing the commotion was the perpetrator,” he explained.
