Makassar proposes 79 schools for central government revitalisation

The Makassar city government, South Sulawesi, has proposed 79 schools to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) for revitalisation, including schools located in the islands. The programme prioritises schools with severe damage to ensure students can learn in safe and comfortable conditions.

Director of Primary Schools at Kemendikdasmen, Moch Salim Somad, stated during a groundbreaking ceremony for the revitalisation of SD Muhammadiyah Mimbar Baru in Makassar on Wednesday that the school revitalisation is a priority programme of the president for repairing school buildings. He noted that of the 79 schools proposed, 30 have already been included in the recipient list for the initial phase, describing it as a very good achievement.

Salim explained that additional quotas are still possible in subsequent phases if schools meet the priority criteria. The ministry initially allocated a budget for 3,886 schools worth approximately Rp4.1 trillion, prioritising schools affected by disasters and those in affirmation areas. Following an additional budget through the revised state budget, the government approved the revitalisation of around 15,100 schools with a total budget of Rp15 trillion, though only about half are ready for execution due to pending administrative requirements. The average budget per school is around Rp1 billion, adjusted according to the level of damage.
