Makassar Metro Police Chief: Six Kilograms of Seized Sabu Potentially Endanger 36,402 People
Should these drugs be circulated, their potential impact could harm around 36,402 people.
Makassar (ANTARA) - Makassar Metropolitan Police Chief, Kombes Pol Arya Perdana, said that more than six kilograms of sabu seized in an operation to develop an international cross-provincial drug network could potentially harm tens of thousands of people if circulated in the community.
“Should these drugs be circulated, the potential impact could harm around 36,402 people,” he said at the narcotics case disclosure at the Makassar Metropolitan Police headquarters in South Sulawesi, on Saturday.
He explained that the disclosure was the result of the Narcotics Unit’s development operations of the Makassar Metropolitan Police from January to May 2026.
In the operation, police arrested seven suspects in a cross-provincial drug trafficking network operating from Makassar to Pekanbaru, Riau.
“Seven suspects were successfully arrested with approximately six kilograms of sabu,” Arya said.
“The potential financial savings for the state if the drugs are prevented from circulating reach around Rp109.2 billion,” he said.
Earlier, the Makassar Metropolitan Police Narcotics Unit disclosed a sabu trafficking network with evidence of more than six kilograms from the development of cases in Makassar to Pekanbaru.
“Four of them are repeat offenders who have been operating since 2018, and continue to operate, moving in and out of prison. And this time they were caught again,” he said.
From the development results, police suspect the network has links to an international narcotics network in Malaysia.
“The punishment can be a minimum six years in prison and a maximum death penalty,” said Arya.
