Makassar Mayor: Barombong Bridge Construction a Priority
Makassar City Government, South Sulawesi is accelerating the process for the construction of the Barombong Twin Bridge in Tamalate District as a strategic move to alleviate increasing traffic congestion in the southern part of Makassar. Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin stated on Wednesday that acceleration efforts for the construction are being discussed with the South Sulawesi Provincial Government. “The Makassar City Government is prepared to provide all necessary requirements, including data, regulations, and administrative support as requested by the provincial government,” he said. Munafri Arifuddin affirmed that the city government is ready to support all administrative and technical land acquisition needs required by the South Sulawesi Provincial Government to expedite bridge construction. He said the Barombong Twin Bridge project is a critical strategic initiative for Makassar due to its role in connecting neighbouring regencies. “The Barombong area has long been a serious traffic bottleneck, particularly during morning and evening rush hours,” he added. Munafri noted that accelerating the bridge’s construction would significantly improve public mobility and enhance regional connectivity within Makassar and its surrounding areas. “The construction process will greatly benefit the general public travelling through Makassar, given this bridge is a major bottleneck causing issues in the city,” he explained. The Makassar City Government aims to complete land acquisition for the Barombong Bridge by June 2026 as part of efforts to speed up traffic management in the city’s southern region. Mayor Munafri Arifuddin recently visited the site to demonstrate the city’s commitment to expediting this strategic project. Munafri confirmed that all land acquisition processes are unencumbered before physical construction begins.
