Head of South Sulawesi’s Hajj and Umrah Ministry, Ikbal Ismail said the first group of Makassar Hajj pilgrims is scheduled to return home on Monday, 1 June. ‘Yes, God willing, Makassar will receive the first group on 1 June,’ Ikbal told reporters on Saturday, 30 May. He added that his team is preparing for the return of the first group from Soppeng Regency. ‘We at the Makassar Hajj Pilgrims Processing Unit (PPIH) have prepared everything to ensure the successful reception of the first group from Soppeng Regency,’ he said. Ikbal noted this year’s Hajj operations have been exceptionally smooth compared to previous years, with no significant complaints from pilgrims. ‘We consider the 2026 Hajj operations highly successful, and pilgrims are currently in good health, alhamdulillah,’ he explained. Ikbal stated that Makassar’s Hajj contingent comprises 16,728 pilgrims, adding, ‘To date, we have dispatched 16,728 pilgrims.’
