The Makassar City Government presented a different atmosphere at the Maulid Akbar celebration held at the Paotere Port dock, Ujung Tanah District, on Friday evening (28/08). The area, which is one of the centres of fishing and maritime trade activity in Makassar, was not only crowded with thousands of residents. This year, fishing boats also took part in the festivities marking the birth of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin, known as Appi, expressed appreciation for the implementation of the 2026 Coastal Maulid Akbar, which he considered to be increasingly developed. For him, this annual activity has become a space for community togetherness, as well as a moment to reflect on the life of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

He reminded that at the 2025 Maulid celebration, the Makassar City Government had promised the presence of fishing boats and a more comfortable activity location for the community.

"Last year we promised that fishing boats would be present, that there would be a more comfortable place than in previous years, and alhamdulillah this year we were able to organise it well," said Appi.

In particular, Appi invited people to make the Prophet the main role model in life. According to him, this example is present in various aspects, from being a leader who provides a sense of security to the community, conducting trade with proper etiquette, building a family with affection, to paying attention to the fate and life of the nation.

"The life of the Prophet must be embedded in our lives, becoming an example and role model for all of us, which we must practise every day in our lives," he said.

In addition to conveying the Maulid message, Appi also reminded the public to remain vigilant during the dry season, especially regarding the potential for water shortages, fires and health problems.

Makassar Deputy Mayor Aliyah Mustika Ilham said that the commemoration of the Prophet’s Maulid is not merely a moment to remember the journey and example of the Prophet, but also a reminder to apply noble moral values in daily life.

"Let us make the commemoration of the Maulid of the Prophet Muhammad SAW a momentum to continue emulating the Prophet’s morals in daily life. By strengthening ukhuwah, care and togetherness, insyaallah we can together realise a Makassar City that is increasingly religious, harmonious and full of blessings," said Aliyah.

The 2026 Coastal Maulid Akbar activity consisted of a number of agendas, including tausiyah, the distribution of aid through the Makassar City BAZNAS programme, and the distribution of door prizes.
