Makarenko due here to boost ties
JAKARTA (JP): The Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Alexander Makarenko, was due to arrive here yesterday evening to begin a three-day visit to further solidify bilateral ties with Indonesia.
The Ukrainian delegation comprises six government officials and 13 businessmen, thus highlighting the commercial mission of the visit.
With Ukraine's technological know-how in the missile and rocket launching sectors, it is expected that Makarenko will look into possible cooperation in the construction of a rocket launching center in Indonesia.
Understanding the need for sea transportation, Ukraine is also offering the services of its shipyard to build sea vessels for Indonesia. Ukraine's shipping industry was the main supplier for the former Soviet Union's naval armada.
During his stay Makarenko is scheduled to meet with a number senior officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas and members of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
Ukraine has also shown interest in acquiring rubber, palm oil and textiles from Indonesia. (mds)
