Majority of US Citizens Approve of Donald Trump's Speech, But Have Doubts About This Issue

The majority of respondents in a poll conducted by SSRS for CNN stated they were satisfied with US President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address before Congress, but still doubt his ability to lower the cost of living.

The survey, released on Wednesday (February 25), showed that almost two-thirds of respondents viewed the speech positively, with 38 percent of them expressing a “very positive” view.

The poll also noted that Trump’s speech was watched by Republican supporters at a rate about 13 percent higher than the overall CNN audience.

After the speech, 64 percent of respondents said Trump’s policies would lead the United States in the right direction, while 54 percent said the president’s policy priorities were appropriate.

However, respondents still doubt Trump’s ability to fulfill his promise to lower the cost of living.

Before the speech, the majority of viewers hoped Trump would address economic and cost of living issues, but nearly half of respondents (45 percent) then felt the speech did not address these issues sufficiently.

Trump’s speech before Congress was the longest in the history of presidential addresses to Congress, lasting 107 minutes or one hour and 47 minutes. The previous record was held by former Democratic President Bill Clinton.
