A majority of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Regional Board (PWNU) chairs from across Indonesia have expressed their support for DKI Jakarta to be designated as the host city for the 35th NU Congress. The support was formalised in a joint statement agreed upon during an online coordination meeting of PWNU chairs on Thursday evening (2/7/2026).

The document explains that this proposal was submitted after observing the ongoing dynamics surrounding the determination of the congress location. The PWNU chairs emphasised that their proposal does not diminish the rights of NU Branch Boards (PCNU) that have previously proposed Islamic boarding schools as potential venues.

Furthermore, the NU Central Board (PBNU) has yet to finalise the location for the 35th Congress, following the National Conference and Grand Conference (Munas-Konbes) held at the Al Falah Ploso Islamic Boarding School in Kediri, East Java, from 20 to 23 June 2026.

The PWNU chairs assessed that DKI Jakarta meets the five criteria for hosting the Congress as established during the 2026 Munas-Konbes. “DKI Jakarta fulfills the 5 (five) criteria for a Congress venue as stipulated in the Munas and Konbes 2026 at Al Falah Ploso Islamic Boarding School,” the official statement from the PWNU chairs noted on Friday (3/7/2026).

Additionally, with less than 30 days remaining for preparations, the chairs argued that the situation demands rapid coordination, consolidation, and acceleration, both internally and externally, making Jakarta the most capable location to meet these needs. The statement also highlighted that DKI Jakarta possesses ready facilities and infrastructure, including adequate transportation, to accommodate and support the mobility of congress participants from all PWNU, PCNU, observer participants, and NU members.
