Majority of Japanese Citizens Support Non-Nuclear Policy

A national poll has found that 76 per cent of Japanese citizens support the enforcement of the ‘Three Non-Nuclear Principles’, which prohibit the possession, production, and entry of nuclear weapons into the country, Kyodo News reported on Sunday. When asked about the Japanese government’s decision in April to lift a decades-long ban on the export of lethal weapons, 36 per cent of respondents stated that exports should be limited to non-lethal equipment, even to allied nations. Meanwhile, 53 per cent believed the ban should be maintained or the policy reviewed, according to the survey results conducted by the Japan Public Opinion Research Association. The survey, which involved 3,000 respondents aged 18 and over, was carried out in June and July by a national polling body established by Kyodo News and its members.
