Asian markets moved in various directions during trading on Tuesday (9/6/2026) as investors closely monitored the technology stock rally on Wall Street and the latest developments in the Middle East geopolitical conflict. According to CNBC, market participants are also awaiting several US economic data releases and upcoming corporate earnings reports.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index opened up more than 1% following positive sentiment from global semiconductor stocks, which boosted investor interest. Meanwhile, South Korea’s Kospi index surged 4%, successfully recovering some of the sharp losses seen in previous trading sessions.

In contrast to these two markets, Australia’s benchmark S&P/ASX 200 weakened by 1.33% at the start of trading. In Hong Kong, Hang Seng futures were last traded at 24,555, lower than the previous index close of 24,657.06.

Asian market movements followed Wall Street’s performance, which closed mixed on Monday. The S&P 500 index rose 0.3% and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.86% due to the rally in chip stocks, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 80.77 points, or 0.16%. However, US stock futures remained relatively flat during Monday night trading, with S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures each declining by approximately 0.1%, while Dow Jones futures fell by 44 points, or about 0.1%.

The rally in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor stocks, which has been the primary market driver in recent sessions, is also beginning to cause investor hesitation. Brian Kersmanc, a portfolio manager at GQG Partners, questioned the long-term sustainability of the sector’s rise, noting that many chip companies essentially operate in a commodity market. He suggested that rapid price surges could pose a risk of future corrections, citing instances where certain types of semiconductor memory prices surged up to 15 times within the last year—a condition he believes is difficult to sustain.

Beyond technology factors, investors are also monitoring the conflict in the Middle East. The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran has come under scrutiny following reports of missile attacks from Iran, which were met by Israel with significant strikes against strategic defence systems. Nevertheless, US President Donald Trump stated that Israel and Iran are seeking an immediate ceasefire. The Iranian Foreign Ministry also noted that its military had halted attacks on Israel but warned that military action could resume if Israel continues strikes in Lebanon.

From an economic perspective, investors are awaiting US April wholesale inventory data, May existing home sales, and the NFIB small business optimism index. Several companies, including United Natural Foods, J.M. Smucker, Designer Brands, and Lands’ End, are also scheduled to release financial reports before the market opens on Tuesday.
