Major Power Plant Recovers, Rolling Blackouts Reduced

PT PLN (Persero) has successfully restored a large-capacity power plant on the island of Java, which had been experiencing technical disturbances since last week. This step has significantly begun to minimise the impact of rolling blackouts in Indonesia’s most densely populated region.

The President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, stated that the power plant has been synchronised with the Java electricity system since Sunday night. This facility is one of two large plants owned by PLN’s partners that went offline from the system due to technical constraints on Friday (19/6).

“There is good news; last night, one large power plant was successfully restored and synchronised with the Java electricity system and has begun supplying electricity to the Java system,” said Darmawan, as reported by Antara, Jakarta, on Monday (22/6).

The restoration was carried out through collaboration between PLN’s special expert team and the Independent Power Producer (IPP) managing the plant. With the unit back in operation, the supply of primary energy is now reported to be flowing smoothly according to the required specifications.

Darmawan emphasised that the condition of the electricity system in Java continues to show an improving trend. Nevertheless, PLN remains on alert, deploying personnel to conduct strict 24-hour monitoring to ensure the reliability of the system is maintained.

“We are making an all-out effort 24 hours a day, seven days a week, both in monitoring and mapping all efforts to ensure that the improvement of the electricity system’s reliability in Java can be sustained,” he asserted.

In addition to technical repairs, PLN is also prioritising the strengthening of infrastructure and the improvement of primary energy supply chain management. These acceleration efforts are being conducted under the coordination of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to ensure national energy stability remains secure.
