Major Poultry Farm Fire in Bali Leaves 24,000 Chickens Dead
A poultry farm in Banjar Dinas Tibudalem, Pujungan Village, Pupuan District, Tabanan Regency, Bali, was razed by fire on Friday (18/9) night.
Approximately 24,000 broiler chickens perished in the blaze, with total losses estimated to reach Rp1 billion.
The Head of Public Relations for the Tabanan Police, Iptu Ni Putu Wiwik Endrayani, stated that the major fire occurred at approximately 10:39 WITA.
“Material losses are approximately Rp1 billion, consisting of a 100x12 metre coop along with 24,000 broiler chickens,” Wiwik confirmed on Monday (21/9) afternoon.
Wiwik ensured that there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident at the farm owned by I Made Dharma Wiguna.
The fire was first noticed by a witness, Deden Rizky Nugraha, who heard the sound of bamboo popping from the direction of the coop. Deden then contacted the night guard, I Nyoman Anggi Hermawan.
Upon receiving the information, Anggi rushed to check the location. He found that the fire had already grown large at the rear, consuming half of the coop structure. Recognising the danger, Anggi immediately sought assistance from his colleagues.
To prevent the fire from spreading, they evacuated several motorcycles from the surrounding area to a safer location. Subsequently, the witness contacted the farm owner and the Tabanan Regency Fire Department. While waiting for the officers to arrive, local residents attempted to subdue the flames using makeshift equipment.
“At approximately 00:09 WITA, one fire engine arrived at the scene. Officers and residents worked together to extinguish the fire for about 45 minutes until it was finally put out,” added Wiwik.
Regarding the cause of the fire, the police suspect the blaze originated from an LPG gas leak used as a heating tool inside the coop.
Regarding the incident, the victim has accepted the loss. “The victim has not reported the event to the legal authorities, as they consider the incident to be purely an act of misfortune,” she concluded.
