Major Overhaul in Parung Becomes Key to Alleviating Severe Traffic Congestion

The Bogor Regency government in West Java has begun expanding public space arrangements to target the Parung area, not just focusing on the capital Cibinong. Head of the Bogor Regency Public Works Department, Suryanto Putra, in Bogor on Friday, stated that Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto has instructed the regency apparatus to restore road functions and alleviate traffic congestion that has long been a public complaint, beginning with the crackdown on street vendors (PKL) in the Pasar Parung area since Wednesday (15/4). The arrangement is carried out in an integrated manner involving related departments, the Parung Sub-district, TNI-Polri, and Satpol PP. Officers are cracking down on PKL occupying the road body with a humane approach, accompanied by appeals to move to the provided locations. Suryanto said the Parung area arrangement is not limited to cracking down on PKL, but also targets comprehensive environmental improvements. “Pasar Parung, which was previously enclosed, is now starting to show its face. It turns out there is still ample space to be utilised again, including for area arrangements. We will also crack down on advertisements so that this area is tidier and does not disturb,” he said. He explained that road shoulder areas will be used to beautify the environment while reducing messiness. In addition, the government is also conducting an inventory of buildings from licensing to ownership aspects as a basis for further arrangements. In the future, the Bogor Regency government also plans to widen the road from the junction to the Pohon Jeruk area to support smooth traffic flow in the region. Director of Perumda Pasar Tohaga, Haris Setiawan, emphasised that his side has prepared hundreds of stalls and kiosks inside the market to accommodate the relocated PKL. “This arrangement is not eviction, but relocation. We want the traders to still be able to operate in a more decent and organised place. For now, the provided places are still free of charge; traders only pay for cleanliness and security fees,” said Haris.
