Major Indonesian Military Reshuffle: TNI Chief of Staff Position Reinstated
Jakarta – Indonesian Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto has conducted another major restructuring of senior officer positions throughout the TNI. Several strategic positions have undergone rotation, including the appointments of regional military commander posts (Pangdam) in various areas.
In this latest reshuffle, TNI Headquarters also carried out organisational validation for the Jakarta/Jayakarta Military Command (Kodam Jaya). The structural changes mean that this key TNI Land Forces command will subsequently be led by a senior officer with the rank of lieutenant general or three-star general.
The position of Jakarta Regional Military Commander (Pangdam Jaya), currently held by Major General Deddy Suryadi, will not change, though details regarding organisational validation of that unit remain unclear.
TNI Press Centre Chief Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah explained that position rotations and mutations are standard practice within TNI organisations. “I must convey that job rotations within the TNI are routine, in line with officer career development and organisational requirements,” he said on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Beyond changes at Kodam Jaya, rotation has affected several other senior officers. Lieutenant General Bambang Trisnohadi, who previously served as Commander of the Combined Regional Defence Command (Pangkogabwilhan) III, has been transferred to the position of TNI Chief of Staff (Kaster TNI).
Meanwhile, the Pangkogabwilhan III position is now filled by Major General Lucky Avianto, who previously served as Commander of the XXIV/Mandala Trikora Military Command (Pangdam). The Pangdam XXIV/Mandala Trikora post has been entrusted to Major General Frits Wilem Rizard Pelamonia, who previously held the position of Level III Staff Officer to the Army Chief of Staff for Economics and Social Welfare.
Rotation has also affected several other positions within the TNI. Brigadier General Mirza Patria Jaya, who previously served as Director C of the TNI Intelligence Agency (Bais TNI), has now been appointed as Level III Staff Officer to the Army Chief of Staff for Economics and Social Welfare.
Colonel Infantryman Wahyo Yuniartoto, who previously served as Special Staff Officer to the Commander of the IX/Udayana Military Command, has been appointed Director C of Bais TNI. Meanwhile, Brigadier General I Ketut Mertha Gunarda, who previously commanded the 173rd Infantry Regiment (Danrem 173/Praja Vira Braja), has been transferred to the position of Special Staff Officer to the Commander of the IX/Udayana Military Command.
Rotation has also occurred in the Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad) ranks. Brigadier General Vivin Alivianto, who previously served as Commander of the 1st Kostrad Infantry Division, has been appointed to command the 173rd Infantry Regiment. Meanwhile, Brigadier General Setyo Wibowo, who previously served as Deputy Operations Officer for the Kostrad Command, now fills the position of Commander of the 1st Kostrad Infantry Division.
