Major Indonesian cities forecast to be cloudy with light rain

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast cloudy skies across major Indonesian cities, with some areas likely to experience light to moderate rain on Friday. BMKG forecaster Sastia, reporting via a virtual briefing from Jakarta on Friday, said cities on Sumatra including Medan, Padang, Jambi, Pangkalpinang, and Tanjung Pinang are likely to see light to moderate rain. “On Java Island, light to moderate rain is expected in Bandung and Semarang, while Jakarta, Serang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya are forecast to be cloudy,” Sastia said. Bali, Mataram, and Kupang are forecast to be partly cloudy. In Kalimantan, light to moderate rain is likely in Samarinda and Pontianak, while Tanjung Selor and Palangka Raya are forecast to experience heavy rain with thunderstorms. Banjarmasin will be cloudy. In Sulawesi, heavy rain with lightning is expected in Manado, while Palu, Mamuju, Gorontalo, and Ternate may experience light to moderate rain. Makassar and Kendari will be cloudy. In eastern Indonesia, BMKG stated that Ambon, Sorong, and Manokwari are forecast to be cloudy, while Nabire, Jayawijaya, Jayapura, and Merauke are expected to experience light to moderate rain. The agency also urged the public to remain vigilant against potential extreme weather conditions that may occur at any time.
