Major Fire in Kemayoran's Pasar Jiung Residential Area Suspected Caused by Electrical Short Circuit
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A major fire that engulfed a densely populated residential area in the Pasar Jiung district of Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Monday evening (1/6/2026) is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in a resident’s home.
According to preliminary reports from the Jakarta Pusat Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat), the fire originated in RT 14 RW 04.
‘The fire is suspected to have started from an electrical short circuit in a house in RT 14. A firefighter retrieved a fire extinguisher from the RW post, but the flames were already too large to be extinguished with the fire extinguisher,’ the report stated.
The first fire report was received by officials at 8:55 PM WIB.
Firefighting units from Kemayoran Sector III arrived at the scene around 9:03 PM WIB and immediately began efforts to contain the blaze.
DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department Head Bayu Meghantara said the affected structures were low-rise residential homes.
A total of 33 fire trucks and 165 personnel were deployed to handle the incident.
After nearly three hours of firefighting, the flames were successfully contained at 11:30 PM WIB.
The fire affected approximately 500 households.
Additionally, eight residents were taken to Hermina Hospital due to breathing difficulties from smoke inhalation.
