Major Fire in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta Destroys 250 Homes
The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that 250 homes were destroyed in the fire affecting 330 families totalling 620 people on Tuesday (2 June 2026).
The fire began on Monday (1 June) at approximately 20:55 WIB, with firefighting operations commencing at 21:05 WIB and concluding at 04:15 WIB the following morning, representing approximately seven hours of continuous firefighting efforts. The Jakarta Fire Department command centre deployed 35 units and 175 personnel to extinguish the blaze.
Emergency relief supplies have already been distributed to affected residents, including 16 mattresses, 10 tarpaulins and 500 blankets. The cause and detailed chronology of the fire remain unknown, and no final casualty figures have been reported.
The Jakarta government has established a temporary evacuation centre at Jusuf Hamka Field, Benyamin Suaeb Street, to coordinate assistance and register affected families. The Director General of Regional Administration at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safrizal ZA, stated that the evacuation facility has been prepared with support from various agencies.
βThe temporary evacuation centre has been established to prevent residents from gathering in the streets and to provide rest areas, along with logistics prepared by BPBD in cooperation with the Social Services Agency, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and the National Zakat Agency (Baznas),β Safrizal explained.
Three tents have been provided by the Jakarta Social Services Agency, with additional logistics vehicles from PMI and BPBD already positioned at the scene. Registration is currently underway for affected residents across two community associations: RW 04 covering five neighbourhoods (RT 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16) and RW 05 covering three neighbourhoods (RT 01, 02 and 03).
