Major Fire Engulfs Sade Traditional Village in Central Lombok

The Sade Traditional Village in Rembitan, Pujut District, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, experienced a major fire on Saturday evening (22/8/2026). Efforts to extinguish the blaze were still ongoing.

Flames were still visible until 22:48 WITA. Officers from the Central Lombok Fire and Rescue Service, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the National Police, and local residents were still battling to contain the fire.

According to information received, the fire is believed to have first appeared from one of the residents’ homes. The flames then quickly grew and threatened to spread to other buildings.

The condition of the buildings in the Sade Traditional Village area was one of the factors that caused the fire to spread rapidly. All traditional houses in the area use thatched roofs and walls made of woven bamboo, which are highly flammable.

Officers and residents were still working to localise and extinguish the fire to prevent it from spreading further to other buildings.

As of the time this report was published, authorities had not been able to confirm the cause or trigger of the fire, nor the number of houses that had burned.
