A major fire has destroyed a building used for furniture manufacturing and scrap metal storage in the Cibolerang area of Babakan Ciparay District, Bandung City. Plumes of thick black smoke rose high into the air and were visible across distant areas including Jalan Kopo and Pasteur, causing panic amongst local residents.

The fire broke out on Wednesday (12 March) at approximately 12:45 WIB. The building was a residential structure that had been converted into a furniture production facility and scrap storage area.

Babakan Ciparay Police Chief Commissariat Kurniawan confirmed that the location was indeed used for furniture manufacturing operations. At the time of reporting, personnel from Bandung City’s Fire and Rescue Service were actively battling the fire and conducting cooling operations.

“It was a house where furniture was being made,” Kurniawan stated when contacted in Bandung.

The plumes of thick black smoke emanating from the building alarmed residents in the surrounding area. The smoke could be seen from several distant locations, including Jalan Kopo to Pasteur. Firefighting personnel continued their efforts to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring buildings in the vicinity.

As of the time of reporting, the cause of the fire remained unknown. Police and the firefighting team were continuing their investigation at the site to determine the cause and prevent any potential subsequent fires.

Residents were advised to stay away from the fire location and follow instructions from emergency personnel. The city government and Fire and Rescue Service urged the public to remain calm and monitor developments through official channels.
