Major Fire and Explosions at Alleged Illegal Fuel Storage Warehouse in Jambi
A massive fire, accompanied by explosions, erupted from a warehouse with high zinc fences, alarming residents passing through the area near the BPK RI Jambi office, in the Pal 7 area, Kenali Asam Village, Kotabaru District, Friday night (May 15th).
It is not yet known if there were any casualties in the fire, which broke out during heavy rain around 7:30 PM.
As of this report, the fire department, assisted by police, are still at the location to ensure the fire is completely extinguished and to prevent fuel spillage from spreading to residential areas.
Based on information gathered by Media Indonesia from residents near the scene, the warehouse was allegedly used as a storage facility for illegal fuel.
“It was clear that what was burning was fuel. The more the firefighters sprayed water, the more it burned and flared up. As for who the owner is or who operates it, we don’t know,” said several residents near the scene.
It is not yet known if any residents were injured. The fire at the fuel storage warehouse is still under investigation by the Kotabaru Sector Police, Jambi Police.
