Majalengka Stabilises Food Prices with Weekly Market Operations
To maintain food price stability and control inflation, the Majalengka Regency Government is holding weekly low-cost market operations (OPM). The OPM is organised by the Trade and Industry Office (Disperdagin) of Majalengka Regency in cooperation with Bulog Cirebon. The OPM is held routinely every Thursday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Western Indonesia Time. “This OPM is held simultaneously in four markets owned by the Majalengka Regional Government, namely Cigasong Market, Kadipaten Market, Talaga Market, and Prapatan Sumberjaya Market,” said Taufikurohman, Head of the Market Division at Disperdagin Majalengka. The purpose of holding the OPM directly in these four traditional markets is to ensure even distribution and directly reach end consumers. He explained that there are two main commodities supplied directly by Bulog Cirebon in this OPM: medium-quality SPHP (Stabilisation of Food Supply and Prices) rice and Minyakita cooking oil, both priced below the Highest Retail Price (HET). The SPHP rice is sold for Rp58,000 per 5 kg pack, which is cheaper than the HET of Rp62,500 per 5 kg. Meanwhile, Minyakita is sold for Rp15,500 per litre, below the HET of Rp15,700 per litre. “To ensure equitable distribution, purchases of cooking oil are limited to a maximum of 2 litres per person,” Taufikurohman added. He stated that the OPM aims to maintain food price stability, control regional inflation, and ease the economic burden on the community. “This low-cost market operation is a tangible commitment from the Majalengka Regional Government in collaboration with Bulog Cirebon to be present in the midst of the community. Given the limited supply, we urge residents to arrive on time and in an orderly manner. Our hope is that this regular Thursday synergy can suppress price spikes in the domestic market,” he concluded.
