Majalengka Residents Warned Against Open Burning of Rubbish and Land Amidst Dry Season

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Majalengka Regency has warned residents not to burn rubbish or scrubland carelessly. This activity has been the cause of forest and land fires (karhutla) in the region. Head of the Majalengka Regency BPBD, Agus Tamim, revealed that in the last two weeks, forest and land fires have occurred in several locations. These include Panyingkiran Village, Panyingkiran District; Baribis Village, Cigasong District; Wanajaya Village, Kasokandel District; and Babakanjawa Urban Village, Majalengka District. “Almost all of these incidents were triggered by human negligence. From residents burning rubbish where the fire got out of control due to strong winds, to the burning of scrubland where sparks spread and created new fire spots,” Agus said on Monday (20/7/2027). Given the extremely dry conditions of the dry season, Agus urged the public to immediately stop the habit of burning land or rubbish. If ignored, it is feared that the flames will become increasingly difficult to control and the scope of the forest and land fires will expand. Furthermore, the threat of forest and land fires during the dry season in Majalengka Regency cannot be underestimated. The potential for fires is spread across 343 villages and urban wards throughout Majalengka Regency.
