Majalengka Regency Government Secures 2,000 Hectares of Rice Fields from Drought

The Majalengka Regency Government, West Java, has confirmed that the water supply for approximately 2,000 hectares of agricultural land in Jatitujuh District remains secure during the dry season, following the activation of a diversion channel from the Rentang Weir.

Majalengka Regent Eman Suherman stated on Wednesday that the inspection was carried out to ascertain the condition of the rice fields and to understand the impact of the prolonged dry season caused by the El Niño phenomenon on the agricultural sector.

“From the monitoring results, there are indeed areas experiencing drought, but there are also those who can breathe a sigh of relief today because their water needs have been met,” he said.

He explained that the Jatitujuh area, which was previously a region prone to harvest failure during the dry season, is now receiving a water supply after the diversion from the Rentang Weir became operational approximately one month ago.

Eman noted that before this water supply support, farmers in the area were typically only able to harvest around 500 hectares of land when entering the dry season.

“Usually, during the dry season, only about 500 hectares could be harvested. However, after the diversion was opened, nearly 2,000 hectares of land across these five villages have sufficient water and are protected from harvest failure,” he stated.

He expressed his appreciation to the Cimanuk Cisanggarung River Basin Agency (BBWS) for realising the construction of the diversion channel to maintain the sustainability of agricultural production in Majalengka Regency.
