Majalengka Firefighters Find Resident's Body While Extinguishing Land Blaze

Firefighters from the Majalengka Regency Fire Department found a resident dead with burns while working to extinguish a fire on vacant land in Karayunan village, Cigasong district, Majalengka Regency.

The tragic incident began when officers received a report of flames on one hectare of land on Monday (14 September). The head of the Majalengka Fire Department, Puja Gustian, confirmed that the report from residents was received at around 09:00 Western Indonesia Time.

“We immediately deployed one fire engine to the location to carry out extinguishing operations,” said Puja on Tuesday (15 September). However, during the operation, officers were shocked by the discovery of a human body in the middle of the burnt area.

Puja explained that the body was found with burns sustained in the land fire. “Upon arriving at the scene, we immediately began extinguishing the fire and found the body, which had been burnt in the incident,” he added.

Following the discovery, joint officers from the military, police and fire service carried out an evacuation. The victim’s body was taken to the Majalengka Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for further handling.

The victim’s full identity is still being established by the police. Puja suspects the victim was a resident living in a settlement near the fire site.

He also noted that a land fire claiming a life is the first such occurrence in the area. “The cause of the fire and the exact cause of the victim’s death are still under intensive investigation by the Majalengka Police Criminal Investigation Unit. We are only handling the land fire itself,” Puja concluded.

The police are still processing the crime scene to determine whether the victim was trapped as the fire spread or whether other factors lay behind the death.
