Bekasi Regency (ANTARA) – The night in Kampung Tegal Gede, South Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, remained warm after the sun’s heat had scorched the industrial area. Yet gas distribution continued at the Tegal Gede Gas Compressor Station, owned by PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) West Java Area (WJA).

In the control room, operators monitored screens to ensure gas distribution was running normally, while other workers carried out regular checks on operating machinery to maintain the reliability of the facilities supporting gas flows through the pipeline network in western Java.

The 606-kilometre network stretches from Cilegon in Banten Province to Cirebon in West Java Province. It transports natural gas to meet the needs of a number of strategic industries and power stations in the region.

Fari Akhdiar Rachmad, head of Pertagas WJA’s Tegal Gede District, said the pipeline network played an important role in maintaining energy supplies for customers.

“This network plays an important role in supporting the energy needs of strategic industries and power stations in western Java,” Fari said at the Tegal Gede Gas Compressor Station on 29 October 2026.

The natural gas transported by Pertagas WJA comes from several sources, including onshore and offshore gas fields operated by cooperation contract contractors (KKKS), the Nusantara Regas regasification facility in Jakarta Bay, and offshore fields in the north of Java known as Offshore North West Java (ONWJ).

The network is also connected to the South Sumatra West Java (SSWJ) system, part of the gas transportation infrastructure supplying energy to western Java, which comprises three provinces.

The network’s reliability is directly linked to the activities of its customers. The gas it delivers is used by PT Pupuk Kujang in Cikampek, the Balongan Refinery Unit (RU) VI, and power stations operated by Cikarang Listrindo and PLN Nusantara Power.

Because it serves a range of sectors, any disruption to gas supplies could affect customers’ operations. Monitoring flows, maintaining facilities and being prepared for emergencies are therefore essential parts of operating the network.

Pertagas WJA has 48 main customers, or offtakers, that rely on its gas transportation services. To keep the system reliable, the company deploys personnel across five operating areas, working in shifts around the clock.
