PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BRI, continues to maintain its credit growth momentum while prioritising prudential banking principles and disciplined risk management. This strategy is part of BRI’s efforts to ensure business expansion proceeds in a healthy, quality, and sustainable manner amid economic dynamics.

As a bank with a primary focus on empowering the MSME segment, BRI views credit growth not solely in terms of the volume of financing disbursed, but also the quality of credit produced. Therefore, every credit disbursement process is carried out by considering the debtor’s risk profile, business prospects, repayment capacity, as well as the condition of the sector and industry being financed.

BRI’s Director of Risk Management, Ety Yuniarti, revealed that prudential principles form the foundation of every BRI credit disbursement decision. Asset quality strengthening is carried out from the initial stage through disciplined underwriting processes, continuous credit quality monitoring, and the implementation of an early warning system to identify potential risks as early as possible.

“BRI still has the appetite to grow and disburse credit to productive sectors. However, this growth must be carried out in a measured manner while prioritising quality. We ensure every credit expansion goes through an adequate risk assessment process so that business growth can proceed in a healthy and sustainable manner,” said Ety, quoted on Thursday, 20 August 2026.

In executing its growth strategy, BRI applies a selective approach by considering the risk characteristics of each segment and economic sector. BRI also continues to refine its credit policies and portfolio monitoring mechanisms to remain relevant to changes in economic conditions and risk profiles. This approach enables BRI to maintain a balance between growth opportunities and the level of risk acceptable to the bank.

On the other hand, risk management does not stop after credit is disbursed. BRI conducts periodic portfolio monitoring through a data-based approach to detect changes in debtor quality or potential pressure on specific sectors.

“Our principle is not simply how credit can grow, but how that credit can grow with maintained quality. Therefore, we continue to strengthen processes from upstream to downstream, starting from underwriting, monitoring both on-site and off-site, early warning systems, to handling credit that requires special attention,” Ety continued.
