Maintaining Bodily Immunity While Fasting During the Rainy Season
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – This year, the month of Ramadan coincides with the peak of the rainy season in several regions of Indonesia. The weather conditions, characterised by heavy rain, strong winds, and high humidity, are believed to affect the body’s immune system, especially for Muslims who are fasting.
Changes in eating patterns during Ramadan, from the usual three meals a day to only eating during sahur and iftar, mean that the body needs to adapt. Therefore, maintaining a balanced nutritional intake and consuming natural ingredients that can help keep the body warm are important to stay fit while fasting.
One of the natural ingredients widely known for its benefits is red ginger. The antioxidant content and active compounds such as gingerol, shogaol, and zingerone in red ginger are believed to have anti-inflammatory properties and also help provide a warming sensation to the body.
Brand Manager of Bejo Red Ginger, Taras Putra Tarigan, said that Ramadan coinciding with the rainy season presents a unique challenge for people in maintaining their health.
“This Ramadan happens to coincide with the peak of the rainy season, presenting a challenge not only to maintain faith but also to ensure that health remains optimal so that fasting can proceed smoothly for the entire month,” said Taras in a press release on Tuesday (24 February 2026).
He explained that they are once again holding the Bejo Anti Angin Spot programme, which will be held in various regions as part of Ramadan activities. The programme is focused on 89 Grand Mosques in 129 cities and regencies, especially during salat tarawih and iktikaf when people are active until late at night in relatively cooler weather conditions.
In addition to red ginger, people are also encouraged to consume nutritious foods such as dates during iftar. The natural sugar in dates is believed to be easily absorbed by the body, which can help restore energy after a day of fasting.
The combination of a balanced intake and the consumption of warming natural ingredients is expected to help people maintain their physical condition while fasting during the rainy season.
