Main Baron Beach Post in Gunungkidul Officially Implements Non-Cash Payments

YOGYAKARTA - The Gunungkidul Regency government in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has officially launched a 100 per cent cashless tourism levy collection system at the Main Baron Toll Collection Point (TPR), on Tuesday (12/5/2026). By the end of the year, it will be extended to 10 other TPRs. “With this system, money is received in real-time and recorded automatically, so there is no psychological burden on the staff,” said Endah in a statement quoted on Tuesday. Endah explained that transactions using this card are quite fast, taking only about four seconds, thus making it easier for tourists. The readiness level of tourists reaches 80 per cent, with the remainder being unprepared visitors, particularly the elderly over 50 years old. To anticipate those without e-money or banking apps, e-money cards are provided for Rp 15,000 without additional card fees. “For tourists who still want to pay in cash, they are temporarily directed to other posts that still apply a hybrid system (cash and non-cash), such as at the JJLS route,” said Hary. In addition to tourism entry levies, the non-cash system is also planned to extend to other sectors such as parking management in tourist areas. This is a form of commitment to transparency and improved services for tourists. “We must be bold in leaving behind inefficient manual methods for a more transparent future,” said Eko.
