Maid sentenced to jail
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): An Indonesian housemaid who ran away with her employer's 15-month-old son has been sentenced to two years in jail, news reports said Saturday.
Enny Susilawati, 48, pleaded guilty in a Kuala Lumpur court Friday to abducting Mohamed Emir Mohmamed Ghazali from his family's apartment on Oct. 18, The Star and New Straits Times dailies reported.
Enny, who worked as the family's maid for two months, was arrested by police who found her and the toddler after a four-day search. She claimed she could no longer bear being mistreated by the family.
Many middle-class families in Malaysian cities employ housemaids from Indonesia and the Philippines. Incidents of foreign-maid abuse have drawn regular media attention in Malaysia over the past year.
